Welcome to The Elms, we are delighted you have found us and it is now our pleasure to introduce to you the unique features of this wonderful 17th century barn, house and garden where you are able to go back in time and experience a Country House Style Wedding, something never to be forgotten.
When you come to the Elms we will offer you something unique and exclusive. In booking the Elms for your wedding you can be certain that your special day will not be that of a typical ‘Hotel Style’ event which can be public and run-of-the-mill. At the Elms you will have undivided attention from all our staff to ensure you have a day that will linger long in the memory.
The Elms House has been the home of our family for 150 years and it offers a special opportunity to go back in time and experience something different. We aim to offer a complete Country House style Wedding, beginning with a ceremony in the Barn. This can be coupled with a weekend stay, either in one of the lovely Cottages adjacent to the Barn itself or in our recently renovated 18th century barn, Stackyard Lodge. Wander through the lovely traditional garden, rose walks beside ponds and waterways and simply enjoy it all. Lilies, moorhens, squirrels, ducks all enhance the peace and tranquility of this special place.
The Barn was constructed in 1450 by William Marsh who was a famous local craftsman. It was originally a Dairy and Dwelling House and then became a drying barn for flax. The Dutch owner of the house altered the barn in 1720 by introducing the distinctive ventilation slits you see today. He also altered the face of the Elms House to the soft Queen Anne red brick front. The Barn now stands triumphant in its renovated state, displaying grace, style and history, inviting every type of function -most especially weddings!
Our association with you starts by showing you around the Gardens, Cottages, the bed and breakfast accommodation and of course, the Barn itself. It is important for us to get to know you in order to provide exactly what you require, as we all will have to work with one another to achieve it. Planning the wedding centres around becoming personally involved with you, our customer and guest.
The Barn is available from Friday until Sunday to enable you to personally oversee all arrangements. Your ‘weekend’ might start with a barbeque or party in the marquee to allow an initial ‘chillout’ prior to the big day. Sunday could see a finale Brunch in the barn to reflect on the wedding day and to see you on your way for the honeymoon.
Our Chef will meet with you and plan the entire menu for the weekend. For Drinks, we have our own list and Bar. Alternatively, you might decide to bring your own wine, which we will serve for you or we offer a combination of both options. Teena, whose great love and expertise with flowers is to be seen in the garden, extends her creativity to the table decorations and flowers for the barn. You may arrange your own entertainment assisted by us, if required, to produce anything from a harpist to a DJ. Professional photography can be arranged from here.
We offer you something totally different from other places, we offer style and that very personal touch which makes a special day unique, and we very much hope you will give us the chance to share this wonderful place with you.
